Natural hop cones in beer 
 

The female blooms of the hop plant are one of the basic ingredients used to brew the Waldhaus premium beers. Only cultivated forms of Humulus lupulus are grown commercially, with only female plants growing in the fields. The fertilisation by the male pollen reduces the yield and shortens the harvest window. Hop farmers generally differentiate between aroma hops and bitter hops. The aromatic varieties contain more essential oils and polyphenols, which are important for the flavour of the beer. The bitter substances of the second group give the beer its characteristic bitter flavour and improve its shelf life. Waldhaus only uses flavoured natural hops and up to 8 different hop varieties per beer.
